Microneedling
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Microneedling is widely regarded by the community as an effective strategy for addressing textural scars, stimulating collagen, and improving skin thickness. While many users report dramatic improvements in skin texture and persistent scarring, the procedure typically requires a series of sessions (often 3-4) to see significant results. Opinions are mixed regarding at-home versus professional treatment; while at-home options are more cost-effective, they carry substantial risks of infection and chronic inflammation if performed incorrectly or too frequently.
Pros
- Highly effective for textural acne and surgical scars
- Stimulates collagen production to fill skin depressions
- Can improve skin thickness, particularly in the under-eye area
- Often described as a more eczema-friendly option compared to some chemical treatments
- Provides faster and more dramatic results for deep scarring than topical skincare alone
Cons
- Professional sessions can be expensive, with reports of up to $450 per session
- Potential to trigger breakouts or skin trauma in some users
- Requires multiple sessions for significant payoff; not a one-time fix
- Does not effectively fill facial hollows
Caveats
- Sun exposure is detrimental during the recovery period; many advise against treatment during summer months
- At-home microneedling carries high risks of infection and tissue trauma if sterilization and technique are not perfect
- Results may be unpredictable for individuals with specific diagnoses like hEDs
- May require pausing other active treatments like tretinoin
Best for
- Textural acne scarring
- Collagen stimulation and skin thickening
- Persistent Post-Inflammatory Erythema (PIE)
- Improving the appearance of mature surgical scars
Avoid if
- You cannot strictly avoid sun exposure during the post-treatment recovery phase
- You are prone to chronic inflammation or frequent breakouts triggered by skin trauma
- You are seeking a solution for facial volume loss or hollows
- You intend to perform it at home without rigorous sterilization protocols

Microneedling is often the most eczema-friendly option.
At home microneedling either wont go deep enough for there to be actually results or is gonna be unsanitary and you just get infected wounds all over your face because you didnt sterilize properly
I’d advise to save up ~$100 and go microneedle
Unsure if microneedling would be beneficial as it supports new collagen formation but with a hEDs diagnoses that might change results.
Microneedling !
microneedling will definitely help the scarring more.
I’m obsessed with it and it’s changed my skin so much after having a baby (I’m 8 months PP and it definitely affected my skin).
Have you considered adding vitamin C serum or maybe trying microneedling? Some people swear by those for really persistent PIE.
Microneedling can make your skin thicker under your eyes + improve collagen production so maybe look into that?
I’d recommend microneedling because you can do it at home (but please read up on how to do it safely) which is more cost effective.
