Metrolist
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Metrolist is an open-source (FOSS) YouTube Music client for Android, frequently cited as a stable fork of InnerTune. It is praised for providing an ad-free experience with a modern Material You (MD3) interface, though user experiences regarding its current stability are mixed.
Pros
- Completely ad-free YouTube Music experience
- Supports offline playback through music caching and downloads
- Modern Material You and MD3 design aesthetics
- Includes lyric support and the ability to sync with YouTube accounts
- Community-maintained and open-source
Cons
- Periodic instability often linked to YouTube API changes
- Reports of the app crashing or failing to load for some users
- Shuffle functionality is described as poor by some users
- Not available on the Google Play Store; requires sideloading from GitHub
Caveats
- Functionality is highly dependent on third-party API stability, which can lead to the app becoming 'outdated' or broken unexpectedly.
- Some users have reported device incompatibility errors during installation.
Best for
- Android users seeking a free, ad-free alternative to the official YouTube Music app
- Users who prefer open-source software with Material You design
Avoid if
- You require a highly reliable app that never breaks due to API changes
- You are uncomfortable sideloading APKs from GitHub
- You rely heavily on a high-quality shuffle algorithm
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age of ~384 days), and because third-party music clients are prone to rapid breaking, this may not reflect the current state of the app.
Sentiment
38 positive (76%) · 5 mixed (10%) · 7 negative (14%)

Disagree. It can come off that way but I find every song on Metrolist.
Metrolist is decent honestly. But I think it's more of a youtube music alternative than spotify.
