Pros
- If you are in the US, Memrise is really great and free with a library card.
- Can you utilise the commute to e.g. use Memrise, Anki or other methods?
- Drops and memrise have European Portuguese in a kind of duolingo format, both are good!
- I've found the EU Portuguese official course is really well made with not just pure vocab but also phrases/sentences to help you use the language, so I would recommend the official German course. No planning required on this website, jus...
- I would pair the website with the Memrise app to study vocabulary.
Cons
- They changed things and separated the community/custom-made courses to a different website [https://community-courses.memrise.com/] Awful decision tbh and I can't see it mentioned on the main website homepage
- I remember when Memrise had free courses and wasn't behind a paywall. They had awesome beginner courses for soooo many languages. This was years ago now. I quit soon after they put downloading the courses for offline use behind a paywall.
- I used the paid version of Memrise for years to learn both Korean and Japanese. It was awesome because the community had created vocab lists for most of the books I was using, and I could create my own lists for any other books or needs...
- Having used it before they changed it, I liked it. But I have heard that it's kinda garbage now.
- Memrise used to be good, back when it was a solid srs platform with high quality user made content, now it's trash imho.

I used the paid version of Memrise for years to learn both Korean and Japanese. It was awesome because the community had created vocab lists for most of the books I was using, and I could create my own lists for any other books or needs I had. Then they changed everything up and made it impossible to use that wealth of resources. Now you can only use their pre-made courses. You cannot choose what level you want to start at or what specific books or list you want. You learn what they want you to. It's awful.

Not worth it at all now. As they are getting rid of (or have already gotten rid of) the higher quality user made courses, and you can now use the platform only for the official trash, I wouldn't pay even 5 dollars, let alone 81.
