Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Medik8 is a premium skincare brand frequently recommended for its retinal and retinol formulations, which users describe as gentler and more tolerable than many competitors. While highly regarded for effectiveness and its system of graduating strengths, it is consistently noted for its high price point compared to budget-friendly alternatives.

Pros

  • Gentle formulations that are well-tolerated by sensitive skin
  • Effective retinal products with a system of graduating strengths
  • Vegan and cruelty-free brand values
  • High-quality Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic acid) derivatives

Cons

  • High price point often described as 'pricey' or 'out of budget'
  • Some users find the formulations drying
  • Polarizing product aesthetics, including a noticeable smell and orange tint

Caveats

  • Individual reactions vary, with some users reporting whiteheads even when using low-dose formulations
  • The orange tint and consistency of certain products may be off-putting to some

Best for

  • Users with sensitive skin seeking effective retinoids
  • Those looking for a structured skincare system with clear strength progression
  • Consumers prioritizing vegan and non-animal tested products

Avoid if

  • You are on a strict budget (alternatives like The Inkey List or Naturium are often suggested)
  • You are sensitive to product scents or specific textures in skincare

If your willing to spend the money, I've been extremely satisfied with Medik8 and their system.

Since L-Ascorbic is the most studied form of C you may want to prioritize that but for the newer derivatives the Remedy one is a great choice along with Medik8.

I use Medik8 and I love it. Before this I have tried retinol/al from multiple brands (naturium, the ordinary, drunk elephant, etc) but my skin cannot tolerate them. Medik8 formulation seems gentler while delivering the same strength.

The Medik8 we use is pricey but there's a load of other options around now it's become more popular (again Inkey List does a good one).

A budget brand that encapsulates is Naturium, higher end brand would be Medik8.

I’ve used low dose retinol (Medik8 and A313) but I get white heads from both.

I found medik8 to be drying. I couldn't stand the smell and the orange tint, and consistency.

Medik 8 is my favorite retinal out there. Tried a ton and I keep going back to it. 10/10
