Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Netflix JP, turn on subtitles and use Language Reactor plugin. Mouse over subtitles to look up unknown words with Yomitan or 10ten Reader
  • Fortunately, some digital tools like Readlang or Language Reactor are helping with the burden and make it more convenient.
  • Language Reactor
  • I use it daily, to get dual subtitles in the language I'm studying (Chinese or Japanese) and English. I use it for Youtube videos in that language. I think it works on Netflix too.
  • After speed-running through all of TTMIK Stories I discovered KR while looking into language reactor, and that started a chain reaction of getting addicted to the process.

Cons

  • It doesn't work on all videos. It uses the Youtube "subtitles" feature, and won't work on videos that don't have Youtube subtitles. Sometimes it doesn't work for other videos (I don't know why).
  • Personally I like the cards from Migaku more than Language Reactor which tends to output TTS and cloze deletions with low quality images.
  • Language reactor has a similar vibe to LingQ. I don't like the UI quite as much and some languages have few resources but you can add your own and it has a large choice of languages (since you add your own resources anyway)

Id highly recommend using a subtitle/text parser like Language Reactor... These programs/extensions will parse Korean text and/or subtitles on youtube/netflix and determine the lemmas (base words) and attach a popup dictionary

There’s also a chrome extension https://www.languagereactor.com/ . 2 subtitles at once and you can mouse over words you don’t know.
