Kirby Air Ride
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Kirby Air Ride (referred to by users as Kirby Air Riders) is a faithful sequel to the GameCube cult classic, highly praised for its chaotic fun and the return of the addictive City Trial mode. While it is celebrated for its deep gameplay and the addition of a story mode, it remains a polarizing title due to its unconventional control scheme and a high $70 price point.
Pros
- Faithful sequel that captures the distinct 'Sakurai' game direction
- Addictive online and local multiplayer, particularly the City Trial mode
- Deceptively deep gameplay mechanics despite simple controls
- Includes a new story mode and feels 'content complete' to long-time fans
Cons
- Unconventional controls, such as flicking the stick to attack, can be annoying or difficult to master
- High $70 price tag is considered a steep ask by several users
- Disappointingly small selection of hats
- Visuals are mixed, with some textures appearing dated or 'ugly'
Caveats
- The game is intentionally chaotic, which may lead to mixed reviews or a lack of 'clicking' for some players
- At high speeds, the racer can feel nearly impossible to control for some users
- Individual game sessions can be quite long, with some lasting up to 45 minutes
Best for
- Fans of the original GameCube game looking for a nostalgic but updated experience
- Players who enjoy high-chaos multiplayer and 'City Trial' style gameplay
- Completionists who appreciate Masahiro Sakurai's design philosophy
Avoid if
- You prefer traditional racing controls and mechanics found in games like Mario Kart
- You are sensitive to high price points for arcade-style racers
- You find extremely fast, chaotic gameplay disorienting or overwhelming

Aside from that, the only other first-party game I picked up was Kirby Air Riders which is also a lot of fun.
The game feels pretty content complete. The addition of a story mode was so welcome. I had a fuckin great time with this game.
The game definitely has enough content that I don’t think it needs anything else, although the hat selection is disappointingly small.
Honestly I am still on team Kirby Air Riders 100%.
Not to mention the $70 price tag is a *steep* ask in 2025 especially when anyone who might want it already spent at least $50 on Mario Kart not even six months ago.
Kirby is a bit harder and requires some time to learn to fully master the controls
This is better than I expected
This game is gangster 🔥Been really enjoying it!
Yes, Kirby Air Riders is chaotic but I still feel like I'm in control all the time. I started by playing all tutorials and now I finished Road Trip once and am hopelessly addicted to the online mode (especially City Trial).
The price is a hard pill to swallow but as someone who's been waiting for a sequel for the original for over 20 years it has not only met all of my expectations it has exceeded it them. If you liked the first game, you'll LOVE Air Riders.
