Pros
- switched to kettlebells. The inner core + hip drive of kettlebell moves (swing, snatch, press) is totally unmatched in calisthenics
- I think you would like kettlebells. You only need a heavy one to get a good workout in.
- Love kettlebells. Maybe the best bang for your buck workout equipment outside of a pull-up bar.
- Kettlebells take care of legs, core, and cardio all in the same exercise. I do two hand goblet squats with a 32kg bell, and one arm squats & reverse lunges using a 24kg bell in the racked position.
- Kettlebells or dumbbells are great ways to add weight for legs at home. You can build very athletic legs with split squats, lunges, weighted step ups, and squats (I prefer kettlebells over dumbbells for squats).

If even that's not possible then just get dumbbells or kettlebells.
I added kettlebells instead of dumbbells. Fixed weight, not adjustable. I use them for traditional kb movements like clean & press and front squats, but also as weight on the dip belt for dips and pull ups. This has worked very well for me.
I wish I had better understood the ways that I (as an individual) would be best served by supplementing bodyweight training with kettlebells. BW training has been great for me in many ways. Adding kbs has been beneficial for legs and posterior chain. Putting these together has been a game changer for me.
Personally I fell into kettlebells initially as a way to scratch my urge to lift, something my ego "needs" past doing just calisthenics.
Dumbbells and kettlebells are solid for things like split squats or b-stance deadlifts, unilateral variations where a bit of weight can make the intensity appropriate enough for muscle gain within a reasonable rep range.
