Kelty

Pros

• A step up would be new synthetic from Coleman. Up from there is Kelty.
• For a tent, you can go on the cheaper end. Kelty will have some sub-$150 offering that will keep you dry and last.
• A step above them imo would be Kelty and Alps Mountaineering
• Kelty has done me good for years and years, I cannot recommend them enough for a budget tent brand!
• If I am car camping I use a Kelty. Had both over 20 years still working fine many years using it at least once every month of the year.

Cons

• Have a two year old kelty tent for use by scouts. Two fiberglass poles split while the tent was set up. fair weather, no abuse. The shock cord is hardened in resin in the pole tips which makes replacing a section a hassle.
• I have a list of requirements for tents I buy and Kelty used to have multiple tents that fit what I was looking for. Not a single item in their inventory today fits my needs. They've definitely been enshittified.
• But yes, I think Kelty has gone down hill in the last few years. The double chair we bought only lasted 2 years before needing to be replaced. The older one lasted way longer.
• I've seen other random complaints that Kelty has slowly gone down in quality in the last decade.
• I've had a couple Kelty tents, I can't say I had very good luck with them.
