I bought some cheaper kefs earlier this month and changed to meta “r”s just for this reason; i didnt want to stare at q level speakers for 15-20 years.
Genelec or Neumann don't have the exposure of JBL or KEF - they do but in their own pro niche world.
KEF has and will always be consumer grade electronics, they're never going to compare to Genelec unless they decided to go all in against them in that sector.
Objectively, KEFs measure very well. They have well designed concentric drivers, which results in having even dispersion both horizontally and vertically, as well as good imaging.
This does not mean you will like KEF - plenty of people dislike its mostly neutral, slightly warm sound profile and the timbre of its aluminium coated tweeters.
Kef is also really nice, although I have yet to hear them in a full on HT. They definitely punch well above their size, and are fantastic for music.
KEF are popular in HT because the quite unique single-point-source design of the UniQ-driver can create a very good and forgiving soundstage (there are other coaxial speakers, but KEF has really perfected the design), and they are very neutral and accurate in rendering the source signal without colouring it.

I'm a Kef guy. They are accurate IMHO. A lot of people don't like them. They are not overly bright. They don't have exaggerated Lows. But they do produce excellent detail.
