Pros

  • I have a Katabatic Alsek and I love it too, but if I could go back and make it a Flex I would.
  • Gotta say, though, that my Borah Bivy and Katabatic Alsek performed comfortably!
  • We had a fun 12-degree Fahrenheit night before descending into the canyon. ... Gotta say, though, that my Borah Bivy and Katabatic Alsek performed comfortably!
  • Katabatic build quality is at least equal if not better than the Astralite. I have an Alsek and an Astralite and I prefer the cut, the elastic edging, and the pad attachment system of the Katabatic by quite a bit.
  • If I were to replace it I would go for something like a Katabatic alsek, which would save ~1.6 lbs (400$)

Cons

  • The Alsek is overkill, but you already know that. If you're gonna be carrying that, I don't think you need a puffy.
  • I'm 5'9", 160lb side sleeper and I bought a regular and sold it because every time I rotated to my other side I would get a draft. The Katabatic quilts have a pretty aggressive taper.
  • Katabatic Alsek (a 30 F quilt would cut weight but the cost is high)

i have used the tensor all season down to probably 20-25F and it's been fine for me with a katabatic alsek in the high Sierra.

I'm 5'9", 150 lbs, a side sleeper, and Alsek in the regular size works great. It’s not restricting at all.

I have an Alsek in the regular width and I’m 5’8” 160 lbs. For me the wide would be overkill. ... That being said I’m glad I went with the regular.
