iPhone XS
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The iPhone XS is frequently cited for its exceptional build quality and 'premium' feel, with many users maintaining it as a primary or secondary device 5-7 years after its release. While it remarkably supports the latest iOS versions, its age is increasingly apparent through significant battery degradation and storage limitations.
Pros
- Premium stainless steel and glass design often preferred over newer models
- Surprising software longevity with support for iOS 18
- Reliable Face ID performance
- Consistent and acceptable camera quality for non-professional use
Cons
- Severe battery health degradation (often reported in the 70% range)
- Base 64GB storage is frequently cited as insufficient for modern updates
- Lack of modern AI-driven camera enhancements found in newer generations
- Susceptibility to age-related hardware failures like dead pixels or overheating
Caveats
- A battery replacement is almost universally recommended for daily use
- Performance is smooth for basic tasks but shows its age when compared to newer Pro-series hardware
Best for
- Use as a secondary or backup device
- Budget-conscious users who prioritize premium aesthetics and build materials
- Light users who do not mind frequent charging
Avoid if
- You require all-day battery life without carrying a charger
- You need significant local storage for high-resolution media and large apps
- You want the latest computational photography features
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 395 days; because smartphones are fast-changing products, this older data may not fully reflect the device's performance on the most recent iOS iterations.

Yeah, no shit I haven't, because I don't upgrade my phone on a yearly basis, and my iPhone XS was doing fine until last year.
I can easily use XS camera (I'm using it as secondary phone) and get this kind of quality (totally acceptable for my standards). Take 10 shots, all of them will be the same, that's what I like.
I'm using XS now as a secondary, and it works without an issue
He plans to replace the iPhone XS with a Samsung S22.
I've had my iPhone XS for 4 years now, and it's now on 72% battery health. I could replace the battery, but I don't have enough storage to update iOS, so I'd probably only get another year out of it anyway.
I still use my iPhone Xs, it’s on 77% bh, no issues just charge runs out after couple of hours, idm tho😂❤️ as long as it works fine idm using it
before collapsing my iPhone XS (after I used it for 5 years), started overheating too so it’s a concerning symptom.
So I’ve been using iPhone XS since Jan 2019, it’s been good and still works well, except for the battery I had to change it two years ago but wasn’t the original worked alright at beginning but it’s terrible now.
my iphone Xs is malfunctioning after almost 7 years of use.
