Infuse
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Infuse is a highly regarded media player and Plex client within the Apple ecosystem, favored for its ability to direct play various file formats without server-side transcoding. While it is praised for its performance on Apple TV and Vision Pro, it has notable limitations regarding high-end audio passthrough and specific immersive video formats.
Pros
- Excellent integration as a Plex client
- Supports direct playback of local files, avoiding transcoding
- Decodes TrueHD to lossless 7.1 LPCM
- Reliable multi-device support within the Apple ecosystem
- Generally smoother playback experience compared to stock players
Cons
- Lacks bitstream passthrough for TrueHD Atmos (Atmos metadata is lost during LPCM conversion)
- Some users report inconsistent frame pacing
- No support for 3D or VR movie playback on Apple Vision Pro
- Currently lacks SharePlay support
Caveats
- While it handles high-quality audio, the lack of bitstream passthrough is a significant drawback for dedicated home theater enthusiasts with Atmos setups.
- Users on Vision Pro may need secondary apps for VR or 3D content.
Best for
- Apple TV and Vision Pro users
- Plex users who want to avoid server-side transcoding
- Users playing high-bitrate local media files
Avoid if
- You require full bitstream passthrough for TrueHD Atmos
- You primarily need a player for 3D or VR content on Vision Pro
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 311 days, which may not reflect the most recent app updates.

Infuse - plex client , multi device
I found frame pacing is all over the place with infuse.
Yep Infuse is our house player of choice.
Infuse makes a VP app it’s the best media player hands down but doesn’t support VR would need a separate player for that if i’m not mistaken
I am currently using Infuse for my Plex movies, but I don't think it supports 3D movie playback.
The best you can do is by using Infuse which will give you DD+ Atmos and TrueHD will decode to LPCM but Atmos is still lost.
I also use infuse on Apple TVs in my secondary systems. Very pleased with it as well with the exception that it won’t pass through bitstream audio.
My Apple TV (even with Infuse and passthrough enabled) unfortunately can’t output TrueHD Atmos.
So Plex + Apple TV + infuse seems to be the best solution to me .
return it, and get OLED tv with Apple tv and install infuse
