Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Hisense C1 is a triple-laser projector generally praised for its superior contrast and color accuracy compared to its immediate competitors. While many users consider it a high-value entry into laser projection, it is a polarizing device due to reports of visible laser speckle and a lack of optical zoom, which complicates installation.

Pros

  • Excellent contrast and color performance for its price bracket
  • Strong value, particularly when found as a renewed or open-box unit
  • Often cited as outperforming competitors like the XGIMI Horizon in picture quality

Cons

  • Noticeable laser speckle reported by several users, leading to returns
  • Lack of optical zoom requires precise physical placement
  • Fan noise is considered too high by some owners
  • Fixed 1.2 throw ratio limits setup flexibility

Caveats

  • Placement is critical because the unit lacks a zoom lens
  • Laser speckle is a subjective visual artifact that may bother some users more than others
  • Brightness levels (approx. 1600 lumens) are best suited for light-controlled environments

Best for

  • Dedicated home theater rooms with light control
  • Users prioritizing color accuracy and contrast over high brightness
  • Budget-conscious buyers looking for high-end triple-laser performance

Avoid if

  • You are sensitive to laser speckle artifacts
  • Your room layout requires a flexible throw or optical zoom for placement
  • You need a projector that can overcome significant ambient light

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of nearly 400 days, so confidence is medium for this fast-changing hardware category.

The Hisense C1 seems nice too but luminosity is not enough I think.

Hisense C1 should be a beast though, I don't think you can go wrong if you're happy with it's software etc

Parent context: Thread of people comparing the horizon and c1. Looks like my memory was correct, general consensus is that the contrast on the horizon is no where near c1 levels. Have a look at the Hisense C1 or C2 and see if you like the look of them better. I remember them scoring higher for this price range on a video review.

I’ve owned both and a Hisense C1. I can categorically say if budget is not issue, the Pro 2 does look significantly better across all content. The EBL can be a hit or a miss if I’m being honest, but even turned off it’s a very very good projector. The StreamMaster Plus 2 is good but I truly believe that even the Hisense C1 outperforms it

Do you think that a Hisense c1 would be good ? The idea is to have a room for movie night 2or3 times a week , the rest of the time it’s the play room for my kids .

I found a Hisense C1 at a good price, but its 1.2 throw ratio doesn’t quite work for my setup.
