For my office setup (YouTube and Spotify listening -- Windows laptop connected to DAC (Focusrite Scarlett Solo) via USB-C, then to receiver via RCA), I have my laptop at about 70% volume, Scarlett Solo at about 70%, and then manage the volume with the AVR remote. My thought process in this was to pass a good volume level from device to device, without being too loud (avoid possible introduction or amplification of noise/hum)
