AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Everdell is a highly popular tableau-building and worker-placement board game frequently praised for its exceptional artwork and high-quality components. While it is often categorized as being on the lighter side of advanced gaming, it offers significant depth through card synergies and a wide array of expansions that can increase complexity and play time.
Pros
- Stunning visual presentation and table presence, featuring an iconic 3D tree and detailed forest-themed art.
- High-quality, tactile resource components (often described as looking 'tasty').
- Scales well for different group sizes, including strong performance as a 2-player game.
- Accessible mechanics that serve as a good entry point to more complex strategy games.
Cons
- Prone to analysis paralysis (AP) due to the large number of available actions and card text.
- The board and cover art can feel 'busy' or cluttered to some players.
- Criticism of the physical organizer in certain editions being inefficient compared to standard boxes.
- Mechanics may feel less robust to players who prefer 'heavier' games like Agricola.
Caveats
- Players can move into new seasons independently, meaning one player may finish their game while others are still playing.
- The 'everything' sets can be overwhelming; some players prefer downsizing to the base game and select expansions like New Leaf.
Best for
- Players who value theme and aesthetics alongside strategy.
- Fans of tableau builders like Wingspan or Terraforming Mars.
- Couples looking for a solid 2-player experience.
Avoid if
- You prefer minimalist or clean, non-busy visual designs.
- Your gaming group is highly susceptible to long turns and analysis paralysis.
- You want a strictly synchronized turn/round structure.

Not for us, but we get expansions specifically because we want certain games to be MORE complicated, or last longer, like Everdell.
Some of the others are a bit too busy, Everdell especially.
The first two games of Everdell we played we didn't realize that someone could move into a new season while others were still in a prior season.
Even though Everdell is on the lighter side of "advanced" board games, there is a lot of potential for people to freeze and think about their turn for a long time due to the abundance of actions one can take and text on the cards.
I think the basic Everdell is perfect for this situation. At first glance, it seems much more complicated than it is, and the table layout is beautiful.
I like the art of Everdell.
I recently downsized from the Everdell everything set to just the base game and New Leaf.
In Everdell we stack duplicate cards in the meadow. This allows us go through more cards in the deck and helps with building your city since there’s a higher chance you can get a free critter.
Risk: Legacy and Everdell were played with 5. ... 6. Everdell ... The games I listed above were all big hits
I feel like duel games are always better then the OG games. Splendor, isle of cats, Azul, flame craft, everdell
