Epiduo
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Epiduo is a prescription topical gel combining adapalene and benzoyl peroxide that is highly regarded for its effectiveness against acne, though it is frequently described as harsh. Users report that while it can lead to completely clear skin and improved texture, it requires a significant adjustment period often marked by intense dryness, stinging, and potential skin barrier irritation.
Pros
- Effective for clearing severe breakouts and acne scarring over time.
- Combines two active ingredients (adapalene and benzoyl peroxide) into a single application.
- Provides long-term results for persistent acne when used consistently.
Cons
- Commonly causes burning, stinging, and redness, especially during the first few weeks.
- Can lead to extreme skin dryness, flaking, and peeling.
- The benzoyl peroxide component can bleach towels, clothing, and bedding.
- Requires a long commitment, often taking 3 to 5 months to show full efficacy.
Caveats
- Users recommend starting slowly (e.g., twice a week) to build tolerance before moving to daily use.
- Applying the gel over moisturizer (the 'sandwich method') is a common community tip to reduce irritation.
- Skin may look worse or drier before it begins to improve.
Best for
- Individuals with persistent acne who have a dermatologist's prescription.
- Those looking to combine a retinoid and an antibacterial treatment into one step.
Avoid if
- You have extremely sensitive skin or a currently damaged skin barrier.
- You are unwilling to risk bleaching your linens and fabrics.
- You need an 'overnight' fix, as this treatment requires months of use.

Epiduo takes 3-4 months to be effective so make sure not to quit it too soon. Use it at night before the hydro boost gel. Start with twice a week for a month and then go up to every other day. Give it 5 months before giving up on it unless you have a reaction to it.
I do have a script for epiduo also and have used a couple times but haven’t introduced properly as I don’t think my skin can take the drying currently.

Good call on starting the Epiduo first, after a few weeks if you're tolerating it well then I would add in the Azaelic Acid in the AM.

Topical gel (PM only): Epiduo (needs a prescription, I visited a derm for this because of my acne)
Benzoyl peroxide bleached every god damn thing it touched when I used it. Be very careful if you don’t want white splotches on towels, clothes, bedding
I just stuck to gentle cleansing, Epiduo, Azelaic acid, Inositol, a Vitamin C boost, and... I finally left my toxic boyfriend. Amazingly, my skin cleared up completely in a couple of months.
Hello, I've started using epiduo prescribed by my dermatologist. So far I've only used it twice last week, this week, I'll be on week 2. My face is already burning, is that normal?
I have sensitive skin and every time I use epiduo it burns pretty much. After I wash it off I put NIVEA moisturiser on but it stings like hell. Yes ive noticed an improvement with my spots not being as red but my cheeks turn red after applying this gel and only after 30 mins does it die down.
