Duolingo leagues

Parent context: I joined Duolingo last September and once I knew leagues existed, I enjoyed them for about 3 weeks. Then it made me anxious and stopped my enjoyment of learning a language. Reply: Same. It gave me so much anxiety (You’re in the demotion zone!), and I didn’t even want to participate.

Some of the point totals were crazy, and aren't possible just doing regular lessons. I found myself redoing basic lessons just to get a decent number, which is no way to actually learn anything.

now you have people using algorithms creating impossible scenarios for getting ahead in a league.

I gave up on leagues months ago... they provide nothing to the app but to add stress in learning a language. Not to mention the hackers that waste time by getting 30k+ instantly.

I don't care much for leagues any longer, but that ruins it for the folks who are honestly trying to reach whatever goal they're after.

I can concentrate on actually, you know, learning stuff, and not feed into a skinner box - because that is what the leagues are. The more you do the more you feel you have to do to keep on track.

I’m trying to turn the league thing off. It is much better without it.

I find the inconsistency annoying. Also, with the need to compete and the compulsion to stay in the Diamond League, I find myself practicing listening exercises over and over again to just to pile up the xp, when I really ought to be doing more newer lessons and expanding my grammar and vocabulary.

I have to quit leagues or else I’ll lose my mind. Me and this girl who ranked first we’ve been competing over rankings #1 since yesterday literally I even set five alarms to wake me up so I can take more lessons but I doze off xd

Does anyone else think the Duolingo leagues became particularly awful over the last 2 weeks? ... It's just annoying and ruins the league competitions.
