Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • I thought my Atmos was being used to its full potential, then I played DUNE and Top Gun Maverick on Blu-Ray for the first time and my jaw dropped.
  • I saw part one and two in imax like 7 times. Fucking phenomenal movies. My favorite sci fi movies and that is saying a lot
  • Dunes are great films.
  • I listened to Dune on audible and I was mystified by the first 3rd of the book, the thought out inner workings and unique identities of noble houses fighting a cold war while the emperor/king deliberately turns a blind eye was such a fun...
  • Dune and Zidoo are better “out of the box” options for just having them work by default.

Cons

  • 3d Movies like fury road and dune are in 3d but they look like 1080p 3d. The 2d version looks like higher quality in both resolution and hdr vibrancy.
  • Dune is neither here nor there. It has a crappy UI and doesn't have the same software support as Zidoo.
  • But they won’t play the Full Enhancement Layer from Dolby Vision files.
  • Once your system is calibrated, watch LFE-rich movies (Dune, Edge of Tomorrow, Prey, Monster Hunter, Fury, etc.) and assess the bass feel.
  • One of my movie going experiences that's never going to happen again was seeing Dune in a Dolby Theater when WB was also putting everything on HBOMax on release day.
