Lies of P
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Lies of P is widely considered one of the most polished and successful "soulslike" games not developed by FromSoftware. It is frequently praised for its high production values, stable performance, and a unique dark retelling of the Pinocchio story set in the atmospheric city of Krat. While the combat is generally well-received, particularly its emphasis on parrying, opinions are mixed regarding the tightness of the parry windows and the telegraphing of certain boss attacks.
Pros
- High-quality execution of the soulslike formula with polished AA/AAA production values
- Excellent performance, maintaining a stable 60 FPS on consoles like the PS5
- Compelling atmosphere and world-building in the city of Krat
- Engaging boss battles and unique weapon/blocking mechanics
- Post-launch updates added difficulty options, making the game more accessible
Cons
- Extremely tight parry windows that some players find overly punishing
- Enemy attack tracking can feel "insane," with bosses sometimes snapping 180 degrees mid-air
- Gemini, the companion character, is frequently described as annoying or redundant
- Time-gated "gold coin fruit" currency for respecs and summons can be frustrating
- Frustrating platforming sections and frequent use of enemy ambushes
Caveats
- Difficulty is adjustable via post-launch settings, but the default remains very challenging
- Some players feel the world design, while beautiful, lacks the "X-factor" found in FromSoftware titles
- Certain boss animations are criticized for poorly conveying the timing of oncoming attacks
Best for
- Fans of Sekiro and Bloodborne seeking a similar parry-heavy combat flow
- Players looking for a high-fidelity, linear action RPG with a strong narrative
- Soulslike enthusiasts who appreciate a unique aesthetic and setting
Avoid if
- You have a low tolerance for extremely precise timing and parry mechanics
- You dislike time-gated mechanics or "annoying" companion characters
- You prefer the sprawling, interconnected world-building of FromSoftware's flagship titles

Just finished the game after 26 hours. Wow, I loved this game. I wasn’t sure how I would feel about a soulslike based on fucking Pinocchio of all things, but they really nailed it.
Ad I loved Sekiro and Lies of P.
From there I've been having a good time playing soulslikes that have parry as a central mechanic, like "Lies of P", "Wo Long" and soon "Another's Crab Treasure".
I found the combat in this game pretty great, the only part I didn't like is that unlike Sekiro, where each attack is masterfully animated it and with a good "flow" to
i could say that this game could be on par to lies of p, but because of the anime artstyle it could be a turn off for some people
Lies of P
If you want souls games as good as FROM, check out Lies of P. It’s pretty widely considered the best of the bunch.
An ambitious soulslike that was sadly massively overshadowed by Lies of P, releasing less than a year beforehand and getting nowhere near the same amount of attention.
Even my favorite of them, Lies of P, I played for hours before stopping. As much as I want more Souls-like games, none of them have been close enough to Fromsoft for me to keep me playing sadly.
it definitely does not hold up as well after juggernauts like Lies of P or Wuchang came out
