Pros

  • “Guy, I am using my Decent as a single shot espresso maker. Using Mass Spec safe water. Remineralizing using Rpavliss water calculating by molar weight. It has water retention of 0.0037 g. What am I doing wrong?”
  • I generally drink ultra light roast espresso - so I wanted a machine that would excel with pressure profiling, so I went with a Decent.
  • one of the cool things about the Decent is all the insights that you get from the owner of the business -- plus he is always interacting in the owners forum. I know that if I had an issue with my machine he would be personally there to s...
  • The key thing is that now it is in the <1% range, which is quite impressive. Apparently they keep improving the machine and learning which components fail and making them better.
  • if I were in the market for a machine like this, I'd seriously consider decent just based on the ownership.

Cons

  • Never been interested in them. I just want to push a button and get coffee, not analyze profiles and play with a tablet.
  • But you have Ascaso, Profitec, Rancilio and Decent all with short heat up times, fairly good ease of serviceability (except Decent, justified though by the mind-blowing amount of features) and in general much cheaper.
  • peak would be with a Decent
  • Wendougee Data S ($3000, but a killer of any Decent and any Italian machine less than $7000 - has many Italian Swiss components).
  • My biggest gripe with the Decent is the water tank - you have to lift a lever on the back of the machine to slide it out/in, and the top is open to the world (under the machine), so it's a little clumsy. I heard a lot of gripes about the...

one of the cool things about the Decent is all the insights that you get from the owner of the business -- plus he is always interacting in the owners forum. I know that if I had an issue with my machine he would be personally there to support me if needed, and that gives me a huge sense of relief for such an expensive piece of kit.

My biggest gripe with the Decent is the water tank - you have to lift a lever on the back of the machine to slide it out/in, and the top is open to the world (under the machine), so it's a little clumsy. I heard a lot of gripes about the steam power, so I did not have high hopes, but it performs way better than I expected.
