Crocs
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
Crocs are widely recognized on Reddit as a functional staple, frequently winning over skeptics through their immediate comfort and utility. While their aesthetic remains polarizing, they are highly recommended for specific use cases like indoor slippers, camping, and navigating wet environments. However, some long-term users have noted a potential decline in sole durability and grip over time.
Pros
- Immediate comfort and relief for minor foot aches and pains
- Extremely easy to clean and quick to dry
- Highly convenient slip-on design for camping and gardening
- Spacious fit that accommodates wide feet
- Effective for monsoon or wet conditions where traditional shoes might be damaged
Cons
- Widely considered aesthetically unappealing or 'ugly'
- Soles can lose grip and become dangerously slippery after a year or two of wear
- Heavier than specialized minimalist alternatives for ultralight backpacking
- Mixed reports on long-term durability, with some pairs failing within a year
Caveats
- Recent mentions suggest that newer models may have lower sole-grip longevity compared to older versions
- While often described as light, they are 'surprisingly heavy' for strict ultralight hiking contexts
Best for
- Indoor house shoes or slippers
- Campers needing easy-access footwear for nighttime
- People living in high-moisture or monsoon climates
- Individuals with wide feet seeking a comfortable fit
Avoid if
- You prioritize traditional fashion or style
- You are a strict ultralight hiker looking for the lightest possible camp shoe
- You require long-lasting high-traction soles for wet surfaces

Honestly? House crocs are great. They wear well and you can wash them if needed
I hated on them for the longest time. I got a pair for cheap and figured I could use them to take the trash out or run to the mailbox. I was surprised at how good my feet felt the instant I put them on. All the little aches and pains in my feet disappear when I wear them.
a pair of crocs.
Parent context: Is it better if I normally wear crocs and these boots are usually with long pants or if I go on walks Reply: Tough love time, people say you dress like a child because you really do dress like a child. Crocs, boots with shorts and cartoon graphic tees? Look objectively at yourself and others and ask if you see any adults dressing like this
I currently solely wear Birkenstocks or Crocs but I’m willing to venture out.
My crocs are older than my kid…
Actually I'm using crocs for 1 year , i pretty much walk on tar roads mostly, but they got to a point it is having a big hole in the sole
There is an argument I have experienced the wisdom of for running in Crocs as well… tldr focus on your form and gently lift weights (leg press) to prevent injury
Since they are plastic they can rub against your feet skin and cause blisters, I have had that as well so can relate with what OP is saying.
My experience with Birkenstock and crocs has been subpar.
