Reddit take

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

The Convoy S6 is a highly regarded, budget-friendly EDC flashlight praised for its impressive long-distance beam (throw) relative to its compact size. It is frequently highlighted as a top-tier value option that fits easily in a pocket while offering performance comparable to larger lights, especially when paired with emitters like the SFT40 or SFT-25R.

Pros

  • Excellent throw-to-size ratio for a pocketable 18650 light
  • Highly affordable and widely considered a top-tier value (A+ tier)
  • Versatile emitter options, including popular warm, high-CRI choices like the SFT40 3000K
  • Compact form factor suitable for everyday carry (EDC)
  • Compatible with tactical accessories such as the Thyrym Switchback

Cons

  • Lacks integrated charging; batteries must be charged externally
  • The concentrated beam profile may be too narrow for users needing wide-area illumination

Caveats

  • The S6 is a dedicated 'thrower,' meaning it produces a tight hotspot rather than a broad flood
  • Performance and heat management are highly dependent on the specific driver (e.g., 8A) and emitter configuration selected

Best for

  • Everyday carry (EDC) enthusiasts who need a compact light with long reach
  • Budget-conscious buyers looking for high performance-to-price ratios
  • Users who prefer a reflector-based beam over TIR optics

Avoid if

  • You require built-in USB charging for convenience
  • You need a 'floody' beam to light up a wide area at close range

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~413 days), which is relevant as emitter availability and driver options in the flashlight market can change quickly.

Consider 18350 tubes, S6s are now my go-to light to attach on belt, unseen. Left - S6 stonewashed stainless steel, stainless steel stonewashed short tube, B35 AM 5700K - pure white light without any hint of other shades. Right - S6 black aluminium, copper short tube, SFT40 3000K - awesome little warm thrower.

Definitely recommend a short tube for the S6, really helps with the pocketability. It's pretty easy to get more performance out of a 18350 than the 14500s too

So happy I added an orange peel reflector to my sft25r 5000k S6 order. With smooth it was very close to my T6 which is my fav, but a bit off, bit more sharp on the edges. With orange peel it’s my fav beam now. Just nice and soft and still goes far

The S6 has a color temperature of 3500K and thanks to the OP reflector it produces a beautifully shaped spot with pleasant spill. It's more than usable indoors for short distances as well.

I was using a Convoy S6 for urbex with spare batteries and that was more than enough.

I also have Sft40 3000k on my S6 and it's beautiful, it's my EDC, with the short tube

It's rare to see a light like the S6/S7 that can come with a boost or buck driver, a good quality selectable LED that can be tailor-picked to do any task you're needing, along with a high quality lithium-ion battery, and pay less than $30 for all of it.
