Convoy 3x21D

AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The Convoy 3x21D is highly regarded as a premier budget "monster" thrower, praised for delivering extreme brightness and long-distance visibility at a price point that few competitors can match. Utilizing the powerful SBT90.2 emitter and a massive reflector, it excels at lighting up targets hundreds of yards away. However, its large physical size makes it impractical for carry, and enthusiasts frequently point to its basic user interface and lack of robust weather sealing as primary drawbacks.
Pros
- Exceptional value for the performance, often cited as the best thrower for the money.
- High lumen output and massive throw distance thanks to the SBT90.2 emitter.
- Excellent battery capacity and runtime provided by three 21700 cells.
- Features an efficient 25A buck driver and convenient onboard charging.
Cons
- Bulky and heavy form factor that is entirely unsuitable for pocket carry.
- Poor factory weather sealing; users suggest DIY modifications like epoxy for all-weather reliability.
- The user interface (UI) is considered sub-par or basic compared to enthusiast standards.
- Limited light quality with low CRI and a fixed cool white (5700K) color temperature.
Caveats
- The beam is extremely focused, which can make it difficult to use effectively at close ranges (under 150 yards).
- Achieving very long runtimes (10+ hours) requires staying in lower output modes (e.g., 10%).
- Users note that the high output can easily disturb neighbors if used in residential areas.
Best for
- Long-range spotting of animals or intruders at tree lines.
- Search and rescue or field work where maximum throw and battery life are prioritized over portability.
- Flashlight enthusiasts looking for a high-performance SBT90.2 light on a budget.
Avoid if
- You need a light for everyday pocket carry.
- You require high color rendering (CRI) or a warm light tint.
- You need a light with guaranteed IPX8 water resistance out of the box.
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older (median age ~576 days), which may affect relevance if newer hardware revisions or competitors have been released.

Also really like the 3x21d, but way too big for pocket carry so it can't take the #1 spot.
Parent context: Convoy 3x21D? Reply: Great light, but it doesn’t really have either high-CRI nor a varm CCT.
And the final step down from this, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you epoxy/flex-seal it yourself for all-weather use, is the Convoy 3X21D.
Convoy 3x21D should do the trick
Have a large long lasting thrower to see intruders or dangerous animals out at the forest line rather than just light up the area a bit (3x21D)
I got the 3x21D and love that too
I have 8-10 lights w/ the SBT90.2, & by far the 3x21D is the most impressive.
Convoy 3x21D is probably the best budget monster light going these days. SBT90 for brute lumens + 3x21700 battery capacity + 25A buck driver for efficiency + giant reflector for throw.
Convoy 3x21D If size doesn’t matter and you just want a portable beacon. Around $120 with batteries iirc and it’s got 3 so it will outlast smaller flashlights if you put it on a similar brightness
and for throwers I prefer smooth reflectors (3x21D, T9R, L21B)
