  • It has now evolved into firmly having a generally positive public reception.
  • This game appeals to all my sensibilities.
  • And I am still convinced Chronicles of the Wolf is one of the biggest game of the year, despite its "flaws".

Cons

  • Simon's quest meets symphony of the night, lacks every innovation in gaming that arose following the release of symphony of the night. Only recommended for hardcore retro gaming fans and veterans.
  • It does have a lot going for it and I really wanna like it, but I don't feel right encouraging game design that wilfully ignores decades worth of QoL improvements. The save system and that travesty about the Y button really drives me up...
  • I saw your video and I agree the controls and the unintuitive map are incrediblyfrustrating. I got stuck around 3 hours in and haven't picked it back up.

A bit of a rough start with beginning areas that are too linear and uninteresting and save points far too spaced out. However it comes into its own when you reach Mist Castle, which interconnects nicely and is full of useful and interesting items as well as things to puzzle out by paying attention to the environment. ... But I was put off by stiff controls, limiting your button inputs and a very uninformative map.

First of all, the public reception for Wolf is Luke warm at the moment, not mixed. ... the biggest reasons why it was initially received poorly was (according to reviewers) because it lacks basic features that are found in just about every metroidvania nowadays.
