AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
CeraVe SA Cleanser is a widely recommended, budget-friendly option for those seeking mild chemical exfoliation to manage acne and clear pores. While many users find it gentle enough for frequent use, opinions are mixed regarding its tendency to dry out the skin, with some reporting it can be stripping if not followed immediately by a moisturizer.
Pros
- Effective for managing active acne and keeping pores clear
- Budget-friendly and widely available at drugstores
- Works well as a second cleanse in a double-cleansing routine
- Gentle enough for many users to use daily or every other night
Cons
- Can be stripping, leaving skin feeling dry, dehydrated, or dull
- May cause irritation or allergic reactions for some users
- Some users report no noticeable difference in skin texture or acne
Caveats
- Must be paired with a moisturizer to mitigate potential dryness
- Some users recommend leaving it on for a few minutes before rinsing when used on the body
- Frequent use may lead to over-exfoliation; some users prefer limiting use to 1-2 times per week
Best for
- Oily or acne-prone skin
- Budget-conscious skincare routines
- Users looking for a mild BHA (salicylic acid) treatment
Avoid if
- You have extremely dry or already compromised skin
- You are sensitive to salicylic acid
- You prefer a non-foaming, creamy cleanser

I switched to cleansing first with an oil cleanser (Hanskin BHA Pore Cleansing Oil), and then doing my second cleanse with Cerave SA Renewing Cleanser and it was a noticeable improvement!
Youre using the cerave sa cleanser which i really like and recommend all the time.
A very light start can be replacing your face wash with something like cerave sa wash.
Have you tried the CeraVe Renewing SA cleanser? It’s got salicylic acid in it already…might be an option
I swap to CeraVe SA cleanser 1–2×/week
I have cerave Sa cleanser
Cetaphil gentle cleanser twice daily, CeraVe SA cleanser at night, then magic molecules hypochlorous acid spray, COSRX snail mucin, la Roche-posay cicaplast b5 spray, CeraVe renewing eyecream, and then la Roche-posay matte moisturizer with spf.
I use Cetaphil gentle cleanser twice a day and CeraVe SA Cleanser at night every other night. The CeraVe is very gentle and not a harsh exfoliate.
It is working better than Cerave SA wash for me which was my go to.
