AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser is a popular salicylic acid-based wash frequently recommended for acne-prone routines, often cited as a gentler alternative to harsher competitors. While many users consider it a reliable staple that pairs well with other treatments like Adapalene, a significant minority reports adverse reactions including increased breakouts and skin irritation. There are also conflicting reports regarding a potential reformulation and differences between the US and EU versions.

Pros

  • Generally perceived as less harsh than similar cleansers from brands like La Roche-Posay.
  • Effective for removing sunscreen and makeup when used in a PM routine.
  • Works well as a foundational step in 'gold standard' acne regimens involving Adapalene or Benzoyl Peroxide.

Cons

  • Reports of skin irritation, stinging, and burning, especially when the skin barrier is sensitive.
  • Some users experienced 'nasty' breakouts, with some attributing this to a suspected product reformulation.
  • Potential for ceramides in the formula to cause breakouts in specific skin types.

Caveats

  • The US version and the EU version (labeled 'Blemish Control') may have different packaging or formulations.
  • Users have noted difficulty finding the specific pH level of the product.
  • Some long-term users reported a sudden decline in results after starting new bottles.

Best for

  • Acne-prone individuals seeking a Salicylic Acid wash that isn't overly aggressive.
  • Users looking for a budget-friendly cleanser to pair with stronger topical acne treatments.

Avoid if

  • You have a known sensitivity to ceramides in skincare products.
  • Your skin is currently compromised or prone to stinging from active ingredients.
  • You are sensitive to potential formula changes in 'holy grail' products.

This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of 218 days, which may not reflect the most recent manufacturing batches or reformulations for this fast-changing skincare product.

the cerave acne cleanser is good, and adapalene + BP is like the gold standard combo for acne.

The CeraVe acne control cleanser would probably be less harsh than the La Roche Posay one. I've used it before and I liked it. Nothing bad to say about it I just found it boring

I’ve been using the acne control cleanser for almost 3 years now BUT i’ve only bought the EU version “Blemish Control” and in smaller sizes too. So, now im torn in between if this bottle is fake or if its just how the US ver looks like

For the longest time, the CeraVe Acne Control Cleanser was my holy grail. However, about six months ago, I started experiencing a "nasty" breakout immediately after opening a new bottle. After some digging, I discovered they had reformulated.
