Pros

  • That cheap RF 75-300 actually does a decent job if you go take a look at some sample images...just because all the gear snobs on here hate it doesn't mean it can't get good shots.
  • Yes I watched a bunch of review and still decided this was good for for me since I’m on a budget. I got to play with it the other day and so far I’m pretty impressed.

Cons

  • Just to counter all the usual parroting of how bad the RF 75-300 is, here's a gallery (not mine) with a bunch of photos captured with the RF 75-300 at various focal lengths, so you can judge the quality for yourself.
  • Get the RF 100-400 used/refurbished, it will do much better than the RF 75-300 optically and has IS.
  • Apply the tape directly to the glass on that one
  • RF 75-300 is old and struggles to focus properly.
  • I know it can take good enough pictures if you have good conditions, lots of patience and skill (i had the ef version), but the good vs bad photo ratio is not worth it.

Just stay far away from the cheap rf 75-300.

The RF 75-300 seems to be a simple rehash of the EF 75-300 (Canon's worst lens). Avoid it and go for the excellent 100-400.

The RF 75-300 is garbage (30 year old design that was already bad back in the day)
