Canon PowerShot V1

Pros

• Told her canon powershot is usually a safe best but idk much about the older models and the other camera brands for point and shoots
• Nikon Coolpix or Canon PowerShot best choices for what your looking for
• And for that low of a budget, he could get something like an old Canon PowerShot or an old Nikon that takes AA batteries and an SD card.
• or a canon powershot/sony cybershot if you just want to have it in your pocket
• On the flipside my point n shoot canons are quite good, a DSLR would immediately be better than a Powershot or similar point n shoot.

Cons

• The V1 feels like it has too many clunky steps to use the camera how I want to use the camera. Setting a custom white balance is a prime example.
• It has an identity problem. It either needs to lean into it's prosumer aspersions or lean into "it's a fun camera" features because it doesn't skit the line very well and likely frustrates both groups.
• Parent context: I only used the V1 for a weekend and this is just about word for word how I feel about. It’s a very capable camera, but has some frustration that I can’t quite get past. The ND is half a glass of water on a hot day. Sure,...
