I personally would carry a fleece and puffy the whole time, but not an R1 and a MT500.
From I’ve seen in the reviews, the R1 does have updated AF, which improves reliability in tracking, but speed has pretty much reached its peak.
If you are comparing the megapixels of the R1 to the R5 mk ii, then you simply are not the R1 target audience. It's a bit like comparing the boot space of a Porsche 911 to a Golf R.
Once you've tried that any other R other than the R1 will feel like amateur hour.
