Canon EOS 600D

The Canon EOS 600D is a well-regarded entry-level DSLR that remains a popular recommendation for beginners on a budget. While its technology is dated—featuring a sensor design from 2011—it is praised for its durability, color reproduction in RAW and JPEG, and its ability to 'punch above its weight' for still photography. However, users frequently note that it struggles with noise in low-light conditions and lacks the modern connectivity features that make transferring photos to mobile devices easy.
Pros
- Excellent entry point for learning photography basics
- Strong color reproduction in both RAW and JPEG formats
- Highly durable build quality with many units still functioning well after years of use
- Access to a vast ecosystem of affordable EF and EF-S lenses
- Includes a vari-angle (flip-out) screen which is useful for different shooting angles
Cons
- Poor low-light performance with significant noise at higher ISO settings
- Dated sensor technology (introduced in 2011)
- Cumbersome file transfer process compared to modern cameras with Wi-Fi/Bluetooth
- Limited ISO range (caps at 6400)
Caveats
- At roughly 15 years old, some users suggest that better modern alternatives may be available for a similar price point (around £200/$250).
- The camera is often traded in or relegated to 'backup' status as users outgrow its entry-level features.
Best for
- Beginners and students on a strict budget
- Landscape photography where low-light performance is less critical
- Users looking for a cheap second or backup camera body
Avoid if
- You frequently shoot in low-light environments
- You require seamless wireless photo transfers to a smartphone
- You have the budget for a more modern mirrorless system
This summary uses balanced time weighting with about a 6-month half-life. The evidence is older, with a median source age of approximately 435 days, which is relevant for a legacy hardware product where long-term reliability is a primary concern.

This camera was introduced in March 2016, and uses the same sensor as the 600D and 60D, which were both introduced in 2011.
I seldom use my 600D because I find it a hassle to transfer the pics onto my computer, THEN upload it online.
Parent context: i shot with the 600d for years, and im not super impressed with its low light capabilities, its just too noisy and spending an extra 100$ gives you so much improvement. it does fine with landscape. itll do the job, but for 600$, i think you can find a better compromise, like downgrading the tripod, since you're only going to be putting like 2 lbs on that thing and it doesnt come with a quick release plate. any 50$ tripod would do the job. Reply: Sure, 600D is not a low light powerhouse by modern standards, but I have to say that it is very different experience from 400D. Having used both I must say it's very noticeable improvement.

the color from the RAW & JPEG is not as pop as last time like the 5D mark iv that I borrowed it from my friend and the 600D.
I moved to it from a 50d and 600d - it's a great improvement in every way.
I started out with the 600D, used it for years, it will treat you well I can swear on it. It punches above its weight for photography
I have the 600D just lying around and I can use this as my 2nd body paired with a cheap telephoto lens to cover outdoor sporting events.
It's okay if you're starting out, but I'd advise you to look for a 600d or 640d. Those have much better features for a similar price
The 600D is in a slightly higher (but still entry-level) product tier but it's now 15 years old and you can get far better options for £200.
