Busuu

I used it alongside Duo for about three months before giving up on Busuu. **Busuu does include a bit more grammar information directly in lessons. It is still not comprehensive.** So I continued to look up grammar questions in external sources. **Busuu's courses tend to be quite short**, so they don't have enough content to provide the spaced-repetition that Duo includes for learning and retaining vocabulary. I completed their A1 German section in one month. **Busuu's community feature is very hit or miss.** Some people take things seriously and offer you good advice. Many people just click the button to say your answer is perfect even if it has mistakes. Some people give you incorrect advice. I noticed this often when I was correcting English exercises. Other people would have told people things that were simply wrong. Some users write or speak nonsense instead of trying to answer the question. So if you are correcting things you have to wade through a lot of incomplete answers. **Sometimes their questions are written in a manner that can be confusing.** A few times I had to write support to ask about this. On the plus side they have good support. They even changed one of the questions based on my feedback. **There accessibility seems to be even worse that Duo's.** I did most of my lessons on the website because they were too hard to read (even with my reading glasses) on the app. Some of the problem is small type which makes it hard to see umlauts, some is low contrast blues and greens.

I liked it at first and then liked it less over time. I liked that it included a bit more grammar instruction. But it was still limited so I still looked things up elsewhere. ... My biggest complaint was the lack of repetition. You would have a chapter in which you would learn X, Y and Z and then you would never see those things again.

I did A1 and part of A2 German on Busuu before I became too annoyed with it. In the German course they really seem to rush through the content. I liked that they had a bit (just a bit) more explanations of grammar, but felt they fell short on content. I don't think I'd have been able to learn much vocabulary through their program because it lacked the repetition of Duo.
