Pros

  • Boston charity runners are doing something awesome. It's amazing that you were able to do that in support of a cause that's presumably important to you! I don't at all (personally) think there's a need to cut down on charity bibs.
  • He apparently qualified for the Boston marathon the year he passed away and when I look up his race times he averaged around 2:55.
  • My mom collected her finisher medals from everything from fun runs to Boston. We took pictures of everything and kept just a handful of the most significant.
  • Had the privilege of running my first Boston this week and setting a PB. It was an incredible experience... The feeling of finishing Boston with a PB was incredible, truly a lifetime experience.
  • I’ve completed my first marathon at Boston yesterday. It was an amazing experience not only for the event itself, but for the lessons I learned.

Cons

  • I've vaguely throughout my entire life been like "yeah I'll run Boston someday." But it hasn't really been a personal goal I had to work towards, more just a thing it felt like I was supposed to do. ... I really do want to run another fa...
  • The first half of the course really beat my legs up, so you can see my splits tail off after the hills. ... Practice running down hills. That is my main takeaway. ... my quads were torched by the time I got to the Newton Hills.

I've vaguely throughout my entire life been like "yeah I'll run Boston someday." But it hasn't really been a personal goal I had to work towards, more just a thing it felt like I was supposed to do. ... I really do want to run another fast marathon, even though I hate the marathon. I don't think it's smart to assume the stars will align for a fast day at Boston (though they certainly did this year). It feels like I have a somewhat narrow time window remaining for potentially PRing the marathon, yet I have the rest of my life to run Boston.

Parent context: Convince someone (definitely not me) with a BQ-18mins (eligible for 2027) who doesn't enjoy the marathon, and has managed to not register for Boston with any of their BQs over the past 14 years--but has said throughout their entire life "yeah I'll run Boston someday"--why they should/should not run Boston 2027. Reply: the fact that you have asked this question makes me think you should settle your curiosity and register for it once, just to know what it feels like.

Tell ya what...conditions are sounding pristine for today. 40-50 Degrees with a westerly wind around 10-12MPH. I mean, that's about as good as it could get. Hopefully there are lots of PRs out there today

I happen to be in Boston today. Will be going later. I was surprised how late the start is. I’m so excited.
