Another clean one is Blue de Chanel. Both stay on you for a long time.
If you truly are a beginner, start with blue and aquatic fragrances. Check out Versace Pour Homme, Dylan Blue, Bleu de Chanel, Coach, Acqua di Gio, Y, Invictus, Kenzo Pour Homme, Bad Boy Cobalt, Montblanc Starwalker.
I've started moving away from artisan splash fragrances to neutral or complementary cheap splash products with designer and clone fragrances layered over. Stirling Deep Blue Sea, Aqua Velva, and Bleu de Channel or Declaration Grooming Trismegistus, Floid The Genuine, and Terre de Hermes or Noble Otter Italian Summer, 4711, and Neroli Portofino.
Until recently my life was simple. I would either throw on Bleu de Chanel or Sauvage and go on with my day.
