Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • I have purchased expensive black diamond in the past for instance but $30-40 Cascade Mountain are fantastic.
  • Higher end options would include poles from the usual suspects such as black diamond - I would check their website for the specific models.
  • For the past few years I have been into Black Diamond and Gramicci pants made for climbers since they hold up to more strain and use.

Cons

  • Parent context: Ha. Is Black Diamond bad? I figured BD was fine since its also a well known brand. They do seem consistently bad though. I picked up another one from the REI resupply and its terrible. Reply: I think BD makes great hiking...
  • I've had this on interior of Black diamond and other high end brands as well, making the bag absolutely unusable because I can't deal with leaving a trail of shredded black plastic everywhere or on every item in my bag.
  • Maybe a headlamp too given my black diamond is sometimes discharged
  • I prefer the Nitecores overall. Much better than the Black Diamonds, Petzls, etc IMHO.
  • My Black Diamond is still usable for its flashing red mode but I'll never willingly go back to 3xAAA batteries.

The only gripe i have with back diamond headlamps is that batteries drain over time when the lamp is off.

It's not fancy, but it's much better than the ancient Black Diamond that it replaced.
