AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Bio-Oil is a widely discussed topical treatment primarily used for fading acne scars and softening new wounds. While many users report positive results, including lightened scars and flattened scabs, the consensus is that it requires extreme consistency over several months to show visible improvement. Opinions are mixed regarding its efficacy, with some users praising it as 'magic' for scars and others dismissing it as 'snake oil' or too slow to be practical.

Pros

  • Effective for fading both facial and back acne scars for many users
  • Helps soften and flatten scabs or new wounds to aid healing
  • Affordable price point and a little product goes a long way
  • Can help make decades-old scars less noticeable with persistent use

Cons

  • Results are very slow, often taking 2 to 9 months of consistent use
  • Can exacerbate oily skin and cause breakouts for some
  • Greasy texture makes it difficult to layer with other products like silicone gels
  • Some users report no noticeable difference even after a year of use

Caveats

  • Requires 'obsessive consistency' to see results
  • Effectiveness is often described as anecdotal rather than guaranteed
  • May not be effective for raised scars or specific types of deep tissue damage

Best for

  • Fading post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation or acne scars
  • Budget-conscious users willing to commit to a long-term skincare routine
  • Softening the appearance of new wounds

Avoid if

  • You have naturally very oily skin
  • You are looking for a fast-acting treatment for scarring
  • You need to layer multiple products that don't sit well over heavy oils

Long time eczema warrior here, try the natural Bio-Oil the one without fragrance. It will take obsessive consistency to see a change, give it about 2 months consistent use to start noticing a difference.

I have tried using bio oil on my face for the acne scars but I just find it makes my already oily skin so much worse.

Bio-Oil helped fade some of mine but took forever to see results.

I use bio oil to help heal wounds like that quicker, idk about being totally healed in 2 days but it will help soften and flatten the scab

Bio Oil, I swear this stuff is like magic for acne scars. I also use it on my back to help fade old acne scars.

Something I did that helped my scar so much is buy vitamin E capsules then cut them open, squeeze out the liquid and mix it with a bit of moisturiser or Bio oil and rub that on. It's really sticky so you have to leave it a while, but my scar faded so well with it.

I had luck with bio oil, the like peach colored stuff in a bottle. I’m sure someone else here will disagree, but it’s what worked for me.

Also I'm a fan of bio oil but that's more anecdotal than anything.

Bio oil and tretinoin helped mine fade pretty significantly over like 8-9 months but microneedling might be faster if you can afford it.
