AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

Automobilista 2 (AMS2) is frequently praised as the premier "plug-and-play" sim racing title, particularly for players who prefer a robust single-player experience without the complexity of modding. It is noted for its exceptional visual fidelity, diverse content variety across many racing disciplines, and a user-friendly interface that suits short racing sessions. However, its physics and force feedback (FFB) remain a point of contention, with some users finding the handling "floaty" compared to competitors like ACC or iRacing.

Pros

  • Excellent visual fidelity and graphics
  • Wide variety of car classes and tracks included in the base game
  • Strong single-player experience with competent AI
  • Seamless 'plug-and-play' experience compared to mod-heavy titles like Assetto Corsa
  • Efficient for short sessions with quick qualifying and race formats
  • High-quality photo mode for enthusiasts

Cons

  • Physics and handling are polarizing, sometimes described as 'floaty'
  • High total cost of ownership when factoring in all DLC
  • AI performance in multiclass racing can be outclassed by newer titles like LMU
  • Occasional technical quirks and 'quirky' game behavior

Caveats

  • Handling is often viewed as less realistic than ACC or LMU by some community members
  • A specific and unusual technical issue has been reported where the game interferes with baby monitors and IP camera streams

Best for

  • Single-player sim racers
  • Players seeking a wide variety of cars and tracks without installing mods
  • Users with limited time who want quick, accessible racing sessions
  • VR enthusiasts looking for high-performance visuals

Avoid if

  • You prioritize the most realistic physics and handling models above all else
  • You are on a strict budget, as the full content library is expensive
  • You rely on specific IP camera setups or baby monitors in the same room (due to reported interference)

I wish I could do this, but AMS2 disrupts my baby monitors somehow, lol. Other games are fine, but when it's night and I just wanna chill, the interference from the wheel on AMS doesn't let me play what I want.

I love BeamNG and play it single-player all the time, but I only play AMS2 or AC/ACC for my online needs..

Parent context: I have a camera on my baby's bed and I watch it while I'm on my pc on vlc as an ip camera, but if I play AMS2 the video of the camera stops. It doesn't happen with any other game. Reply: Dude wtf. I have a camera on my baby's bed and I watch it while I'm on my pc on vlc as an ip camera, but if I play AMS2 the video of the camera stops. It doesn't happen with any other game.

IMO its the best single player sim-racer out there. Plenty of different classes and tracks to pick from, with AI thats mostly good

It's a great "plug-and-play" experience if you want a wide variety of content, but don't want to mess with AC and mods. Visually, it's one of the best on the market in my opinion, the AI are not outstanding, but competent enough, and the content variety is just top-notch. My main concern with it is the price point - with all the DLC and everything, it's prohibitively expensive.

Parent context: As someone who has been warned off of AM2 in the past, can someone speak to the current state of the title. I main iRacing but have been meaning to expand my horizons. Reply: Its handling is definitely not as good as LMU or ACC, but it by far has the best variety and AI. I consider it the best "plug and play" sim.

It wont become a racing title like AC, AMS2 or iRacing but there is so much potential in so many other disciplines
