Pros
- Asahi Linux is surprisingly usable now
- I run asahi linux on an M1 Macbook Pro. Best speakers you can get on a linux laptop, I think.
- Parent context: https://www.reddit.com/r/AsahiLinux/comments/1au4zyf/daily_driving_linux_on_m1_macbook/ Reply: This. Dual boot Linux and MacOS is possible, easy to install and very stable.
- Remember that if you choose mac, in a near future Asahi Linux could be an option for the M chips
- Parent context: asahi works fine btw if you dont care about battery life (which you dont because intel macs are also terrible) Reply: Asahi Linux currently only works with M1 and M2 chips. It does not work with M3 or M4 chips.
Cons
- And battery is much worse on asahi sadly
- But asahi linux for m1 is still a bit too experimental for me.
- Parent context: Get a macbook and put Asahi Linux on it. Problem solved Reply: Not problem solved because support is still limited, Asahi is still very very much a work in progress, plus the developers have the hard work of reverse engin...

Asahi Linux specifically made for Mac’s
Parent context: Get a macbook and put Asahi Linux on it. Problem solved Reply: Not problem solved because support is still limited, Asahi is still very very much a work in progress, plus the developers have the hard work of reverse engineering Apple's hardware in order to make it work on Asahi. Because Apple is mute on their hardware specs. Hats off to those developers because what they are doing is super valuable and highly nontrivial, but if you need a reliable Linux machine for work, Asahi is a risk that you probably shouldn't be taking.
You can get a M2 MacBook Pro off eBay and run Asahi Linux on it.
