Pros

• Aquasoil stays in place and plant roots shoot deeper into the substrate and lock in place.
• You’re totally within your reasons to think that, but it’s also one of the most nutritious and effective soils. You can also get different sized and colors.
• Aqua soil is worth it but it’s your tank!
• Make your life easier, use aqua soil. The shrimp will be fine.
• Yeah any aqua soil will do. It’s the best substrate for plants.

Cons

• It’s so popular now but it’s all I see. The worst is when it’s capped with sand and a few little turds sneak through and rest on the top. Looks like a litter box.
• I am not a fan of these fancy aqua soils. Their marketing pushes poor science knowledge and they are a solution in search of a problem. New tanks don't need mystery fertilizers and temp KH reduction is either too much or too little.
• The aqua soil will put a lot of nutrients into the water initially. Probably best to cut down your light period too.
• Additionally, it does degrade in nutrient quality over time, so you spend a premium and 'waste' the best grow period (the first 6 months) if you don't sock plants right out the gate that benefit the most from that kind of soil.
