AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote

AOC is widely recognized as a leading budget-focused brand that provides high value for money, often delivering performance that rivals more expensive established brands. While praised for its competitive pricing and strong warranty terms, users frequently note trade-offs in secondary features like speaker quality and occasional quality control inconsistencies.

Pros

  • Excellent value for money, often outperforming premium brands at lower price points
  • Strong warranty coverage, frequently cited as being above average (up to 3 years)
  • Good motion clarity and effective implementation of features like MBR Sync and VRR
  • Competitive entry-level mini-LED and high-refresh-rate options

Cons

  • Poor internal speaker quality, described by users as sounding muffled or low-quality
  • VA panels used in some budget models can exhibit black smearing
  • Potential for color banding on certain 8-bit panels
  • Mixed reports regarding customer service and long-term reliability

Caveats

  • Quality control is a recurring point of discussion; some users recommend buying from retailers with easy return policies to mitigate the risk of receiving a defective unit.
  • Opinions on panel types are split, with some users specifically avoiding their VA offerings in favor of IPS.

Best for

  • Budget-conscious gamers looking for high refresh rates
  • Users seeking affordable mini-LED or HDR-capable displays
  • Buyers who prioritize a strong manufacturer warranty

Avoid if

  • You rely on built-in monitor speakers for primary audio
  • You are highly sensitive to VA panel smearing in dark scenes
  • You prefer a premium brand experience with high-end customer support

AOC, TCL and KTC offer superb value for money. What they offer can usually easily outperform a more established brand's offering at double the price.

That said, I'd still go for AOC. Samsung are positioned in the premium nowadays and their budget stuff is just overpriced market filling. AOC are a budget-focused brand, so you're more likely to get something built more purposefully with them.

AOC: forgets brightness settings on power cycle; unclear if defect is specific to my unit. Also appears to disconnect whenever the monitor goes to sleep, which is not proper behavior.

AOC makes pretty average monitors but has very above average warranty. I recommend their stuff if the price is right but I would check out other options too.

my AOC has speakers too but they sound like someone is stuck underwater and I'm listening to them through a toilet.

If not i would go for the AOC personally, but as you said it is using a VA panel which introduces a little black smearing, but contrast will be way superior.

Other than that AOC has released some really good budget monitors for gaming, they feature MBR Sync with VRR on and tuneable MBR when VRR is off which is nice to have and works pretty well without introducing much image duplication.
