AlDente

Pros

• I started using an app, AlDente, to limit my M1 charging to 80% because power in my country is bad.
• Aldente for battery
• I'd recommend you to use aldente if you strictly want to limit charging to 80%. It works 99% of the times and doesn't let your battery charge over the set limit.
• I’ve lost 0% (different machine that the above example) over two years using AlDente with a 75% charging limit, and far more unplugged use over that two years as well.
• Although this had no negative side effects for me and thousands of others, AlDente still taps in some very low level system functions that are not meant to be tampered with.

Cons

• It turned out, you don't need Aldente.
• I just got it, and honestly, I’m a bit underwhelmed by it. Lol. The charge limit / discharge / sailing mode features really aren’t as mindblowing as I expected them to be.
• AlDente is meant for people who keep their MacBooks plugged in nearly 24/7, which obviously doesn’t describe you. Even if you do keep your MacBook plugged in nearly 24/7, the benefits are debatable.
• Parent context: The best you can do is to cap charging on a Mac with AlDente. Reply: Yeah, good point. I've had issues with AlDente in the past though.
