Reddit take

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.

Pros

  • Maybe even Abercrombie if something is on sale.
  • Some recommendations to explore: Mid-range: RW&CO, Old Navy, Abercrombie (trust), Banana Republic, KOTN, COS
  • Grab a navy textured polo (like a sweater polo or a nice pique) from Abercrombie's sale section or Uniqlo. It costs almost the same but looks ten times more expensive.
  • My favorite button down is a vintage Abercrombie I got for like $20
  • Some brands/styles I really like are Vans, Adidas Originals, Lucky Brand, Abercrombie, Free People, Lacoste, H&M, Farm Rio.

Cons

  • Gap, Abercrombie, AE, Frame, Levi, Mother all get F's on the low rise front. They all have their own pattern archives they could have sourced from.
  • Abercrombie has some stuff that’s fine, but it’s pretty cheap and it won’t last you.
  • But with Abercrombie for example, just look at the change from the old Emerson dress to the new one—still 100% cotton, but thinner and less substantial.
  • i’ve tried torrid, american eagle, good american (although i should revisit some of their different styles), levi’s, and abercrombie.

Abercrombie I’ve had good experiences with as far as consistency of sizing, which is usually a key indicator of quality control. There are occasional duds, but due to the limited amount of stuff they release each season (compared to Zara), I think they’re able to keep their clothes reasonably well made.
