98 QM8K
Reddit take
AI summary of the Reddit excerpts below — not a quote
The 98-inch QM8K is praised for its massive scale and high brightness, making it a popular choice for home theater immersion and bright-room viewing. While it offers impressive HDR performance and black levels that approach OLED quality, it faces criticism for motion handling, black smearing in gaming, and mediocre upscaling of low-resolution content. Users generally find the trade-off in size worth the minor technical shortcomings, though build quality consistency and electronic noise are reported issues.
Pros
- Immense screen size provides exceptional immersion for movies and sports
- High peak brightness and impactful HDR performance
- Strong black levels for a Mini-LED panel, though not quite matching OLED
- Excellent value for the price-to-size ratio compared to competitors
- Fantastic picture quality when fed high-bitrate 1080p or native 4K content
Cons
- Audible electronic whine reported when brightness is set above 50%
- Motion issues including jitter, ghosting, and red smearing in dark scenes
- Mediocre upscaling of sub-1080p content, which is exacerbated by the screen size
- Black smearing in gaming compared to the instant response of OLED panels
- Potential for panel uniformity issues, such as dark borders or 'wavy' screen surfaces
Caveats
- Requires significant settings tinkering (specifically blur and judder reduction) to achieve acceptable motion
- The sheer size makes it prone to delivery damage; multiple users reported units arriving with cracked panels or lines
- Aura or halo effects can appear around text or boxes in greyish menus
- Panel has a 'jello-like' give when minor pressure is applied
Best for
- Dedicated home theater setups where immersion is the priority
- Bright living rooms that require high light output to combat glare
- Users who primarily consume high-quality 4K HDR media
Avoid if
- You are an OLED purist sensitive to black smearing or minor blooming
- You primarily watch low-resolution cable TV or DVDs
- You are sensitive to high-pitched electronic buzzing or coil whine

Parent context: How is the motion? I also have the 98” qm8k and really hate the motion clarity. Reply: Turn blur reduction down to 0 and judder reduction down to like 5. Let me know if that does it for you. Ever since I’ve changed those settings, I’ve had no problems and everything looks fantastic
It is great, amazing really. I get people say it doesn't have as good upscaling as sony or samsung but to be honest I rarely use it for content that isn't 1080p at a minimum and it goes through my apple tv first anyway. But everything I watched so far looks amazing. This weekend I decided to buy furiosa on UHD-bluray. And I was honestly wowed. The blacks were great and the brightness was amazing. Honestly it seemed like a bigger step up over my qm8 than I expected.
98” QM8K. Turned set on this morning and had no video, audio only. Unplugged, plugged back in and video was restored.
We just got a 98 QM8K on Black Friday for our family room and it’s great.
Got a 98” QM8K and love watching football on it
The only time I’ve really noticed a blur/refresh issue is football on YouTube tv. When you see the deep ball thrown you can see the tv struggle a bit with the motion.
Tbh, so far I’d say I’m pretty happy with it. For the price and size it’s a pretty damn good tv.
I have 98 QM8K and Q990c and volume displays with firestck remote and TV remote too on tv.
I have a 98" QM8K, and while sub-1080p content doesn’t look great, that’s expected — on a screen this big, missing detail and compression artifacts are much more noticeable than on smaller TVs. When you give it high-bitrate 1080p or true 4K content, though, the picture looks fantastic.
got a 98" qm8k. No regrets. It shits on both those other TVs.
