Pros

• [[7 Wonders]] is exactly what you are looking for
• I was worried this was going to be too hard but it is BRILLIANT! We watched that 28 min rules video on YouTube and it made it simples. The older kids (9+) think this the their favourite game and we've alreadly played 6 times.
• I second 7 Wonders. It's really smooth and has degressive playtime increase for each additional player
• I feel like 7 wonders or a roll and write like cartographers would suit well
• True I can play a BGA 7 wonders in like 5 minutes

Cons

• While 7 Wonders is thematically about empire building, mechanically it is very different from 4Xs.
• It shares a lot of DNA with 7 Wonders, only you're drafting tiles rather than cards, and it's set in the future.
