Pride and Prejudice vs Anne of Green Gables

the book I have read most often and enjoyed even more with each reread and learned to appreciate even more the older I got is Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

Longbourn by Jo Baker is not a fantasy book, but looks at Pride and Prejudice from the servants’ POV

Pride and Prejudice is the second funniest to me. I love Austen’s sense of humour and keen observations on society. It’s more social commentary than romance to me and absolutely hilarious at times.

Parent context: Jane Austen was given to shell shocked soldiers. It’s great because it’s interesting without any high stakes. Reply: This is such a good suggestion. There's enough drama for you to gasp at, but nothing ever feels truly threatening. Austen herself described P&P as "light, bright, and sparkling."

A few books I read while nursing at night were ... *Anne of Green Gables* (for the hundredth time)

“Anne of Green Gables” is pretty universally appealing and also especially wonderful if you get a good narrator.

Anne of Green Gables is also a nice wholesome escape.

The Anne of Green Gables books would be great!

Parent context: There’s a fair amount of romance. Reply: Not in the first book. And the rest is more “slice of life” than grand romance like in many YA books. If she was ok with Percy Jackson, then the romance in Anne of Green Gables should be fine.
