AI summary — not a quote

Liforme yoga mats are widely praised for their exceptional grip, particularly for practitioners who sweat heavily or practice high-intensity styles like Ashtanga and power flow. Users frequently describe the grip as "unreal" and superior to competitors like Manduka, noting that it requires no break-in period. While the alignment lines and supportive thickness are highly valued, the mat is also noted for being expensive, heavy, and prone to showing wear or losing its "sticky" quality after 6 to 12 months of heavy use.

Pros

  • Exceptional non-slip grip even during very sweaty sessions
  • Helpful alignment lines for proper positioning
  • No break-in period required; grippy from the first use
  • Thicker and more supportive feel compared to many rubber mats

Cons

  • High price point compared to other premium mats
  • Heavier and bulkier than many alternatives
  • Surface can be too grippy for transitions that require sliding the feet
  • Prone to staining and showing sweat marks, especially on lighter colors

But then they brought out a new colour that I loved and I made a late night purchase that I came close to cancelling next day. But I absolutely love it. It is genuinely so comfortable to use and absolutely non slip.

Surprised no one has mentioned Liforme. I resisted getting an expensive mat for years but the difference is night and day. Some of us are sweaty enough that it’s not just a matter of engaging muscles more, we need the grip to be able to engage those muscles properly.

No competition in terms of grip - Liforme beats Manduka.

I’m wondering if anyone knows of a mat that has the similar smooth rubbery surface to a lifeforme or Lululemon

My own mats are Liforme and Yogiraj, both expensive and worth it.

The Manduka PRO is widely regarded as a 'buy it for life' yoga mat, with users frequently reporting 10 to 15 years of regular use while maintaining its condition. However, it is highly polarizing due to its surface texture; while many praise its support and long-term feel, a significant number of users find it dangerously slippery, especially before a lengthy break-in period or when exposed to sweat.

Pros

  • Exceptional durability with many users reporting over a decade of use.
  • Provides firm, high-quality support suitable for various yoga styles and heavier bodies.
  • Latex-free construction.
  • Easy to clean and maintains its aesthetic appearance over years of practice.

Cons

  • Notorious for being extremely slippery when new.
  • Requires a difficult and sometimes unsuccessful break-in period.
  • Often necessitates the additional purchase of yoga towels for adequate grip.
  • Heavy and less portable than lighter alternatives.

Parent context: Please get her a Manduka Pro! And at least two yoga towels to go with it. Reply: I would, but I think she would actually get so frustrated breaking it in that she wouldn’t use it.

I’d still recommend a Manduka PRO or PRO Extra Long for your height. It’s durable, very supportive for heavier bodies, and has great grip once broken in, making it a solid choice for regular Vinyasa and Gravity yoga.
