We got the Carnival Hybrid and have had no problems whatsoever.

Consider the sienna and the Odyssey, but do not sleep on the Kia carnival hybrid. It’s like the best parts of the sienna and Odyssey, combined with practically none of their downsides.

I'd also look at the Kia Carnival Hybrid, right now CR has it as the highest rated minivan overall and for expected reliability. Kia's hybrids are hitting way above their weight class right now.

The Carnival is the only other hybrid available new, it's nice and comfortable, all-around good enough. While reliability is a question mark, its 10 year, 100k mile powertrain warranty is good a long way to assuage concerns, and Consumer Reports ranks it highly.

I like it a lot. It ranges but probably average about 36.5. I've gotten as high as 51 mpg on a particularly good trip. Of course, I've also gotten 20 mpg on some trips too. I like to drive it in "smart" mode so it balances power vs mpg.

AI summary — not a quote

The Ford Ranger is widely regarded as a durable, body-on-frame midsize truck that excels in towing, off-roading, and general utility. While older models are celebrated as 'bulletproof' budget beaters, newer versions are praised for their solid infotainment and reliable EcoBoost engines. However, interior space is a consistent drawback, with users frequently noting cramped cabins and small rear seats compared to competitors.

Pros

  • High towing and hauling capacity for its class due to body-on-frame construction.
  • Strong off-road capability, especially compared to unibody competitors.
  • Reliable engine options, specifically the 2.3L EcoBoost and older pre-2010 powerplants.
  • Easy to maintain with widely available parts and repair tutorials.

Cons

  • Cramped interior space, particularly in the rear seats of newer models.
  • Older models are described as 'absurdly small' inside, feeling like a 'clown car' for multiple adults.
  • Can 'nickel and dime' owners with small domestic truck repairs as they age.
  • Stiffer ride quality compared to unibody vehicles like the Honda Ridgeline.

For example, an older Ford Ranger with lower miles would not be a bad option.

You probably won’t find a new style Ford Ranger for that price, but I loved the 2020 I had.

Ford Everest is based on the Ford Ranger, which has been very tough and reliable in other markets.

Assuming you’re not looking at the raptor, the new rangers have been solid for the last few years.

The Ranger is similar enough in every way to be a toss up.
