Zotero

Not enough linked mention summaries yet; the source excerpts below are the evidence.
Pros
- I also connect Zotero (my citation manager and where I annotate readings) to Obsidian, so everything gets linked together.
- I made a video about how I use Obsidian with Zotero! It might be more overkill than you'd like/need, but maybe it'll be helpful for you!
- Maybe the best strategy would be to use Zotero and then connect it to Obsidian?
- how to organize the Zettelkasten in Obsidian and Zotero?
- You can connect it first with webdav such as Koofr and then Zotero
Cons
- Next step seems to be to get it linked up with Zotero, but I've not set that app up yet
- Zotero is no stranger to me (and to many of you, I believe).
- I do also have Zotero installed, but I prefer to keep that for actual research papers. I don't much see the point in putting things into Zotero if they don't have a DOI or ISBN number attached.
- Zotero looks interesting, and a lot of people use it along Obsidian, but it seems to rely too much (by design) on grabbing metadata and supporting docs from the web. I need a tool that protects the privacy of the documents I'm referencing.
- I heard about tools like Zotero and Paperless, but both seem ill-suited to this.

If it's from an annotation or video, BetterNotes in Zotero manages them for me and then I get my reference notes with the Zotero Integration.
If you want to lean into it for papers and long term research notes, you might want to pair Obsidian with a reference manager so PDFs and citations are easy to pull into your notes. Some people use Zotero or Mendeley for the bibliographic side
If you want other pieces to plug into that pipeline, people commonly use Zotero for citation tracking and PDF storage
