Pros

  • Dataview is fantastic because I set the queries once and haven't even touched them since.
  • I was using dataview and a script that automatically creates new notes with the yaml format for a new song.
  • Parent context: Dataview is more powerful than bases for now though. Just keep using dataview tbh Reply: A lot of that power is only available to people with higher levels of technical skills. I managed to put together a few dataview que...
  • Using note properties, for example, using the DataView plugin.
  • 1 year ago: dataview

Cons

  • Using Dataview or Bases aren't an improvement since they're far slower than simply typing "ctrl+shift+F #GRANDMA".
  • My vault is currently about 3,000 files and Dataview seems to work fine for me. I've noticed it to be a bit slower than when I started my vault, but it's not that bad, even on my laptop.
  • Then I use Dataview to generate a story synopsis, and also one for each character via a Dataview query in their character sheet.
  • Then it ought to be possible to import this CSV into Obsidian and query it using Bases or Dataview.
  • I really don't want to deal with dataview on 3000 notes.

I don’t care if you bluetooth your toaster with DataView you’ll know how many carbs it takes to clean your teeth

I used to use Dataview and DB Folder for this (still has some Dataview use cases for non-table things). But, bases made it so easy. I like it more because the learning curve is really low.

I'm not a coder and I found dataview almost impossible to use. At best I was able to copy other people's queries and modify them for my own use.
