I would just see Zhangjiajie simply because it's a specific site you want to see and you'll only have a couple days. You never know when you'll be back, maybe just knock it off the list while you have the chance IMO.
I want to capture the neon drenched streets of Chongqing, the fields of Guilin, the peaks of Zhangjiajie and the Great Wall.
Zhangjiajie needs at least 2 full days in the park for a more complete experience - tickets are valid for 4 days for a reason. It is really beautiful, although I had poor luck with the weather, so I just got a glimpse of it.

The first day, we visited Tianmen Cave, and it was foggy. We could only see Heaven's Gate after waiting for half an hour, but we couldn't visit the rest of the park because of how foggy it was; we had visibility for only 3m ahead of us. However, the day after in Zhangjiajie National Park was PERFECT. No clouds, no fog, no rain, we were really lucky.
Since you’re going to Guilin/Zhangjiajie, Chengdu/Chongqing make a bit more sense geographically and transit wise.
One of the karst landscape areas would be a great nature break: Zhangjiajie or Yangshuo are both popular and stunning.
If you want to see the best of China, go to Beijing, Xian, Yangshuo and Zhangjiajie. Maybe stopover Chongqing.
I've only been to Zhangjiajie, but I gotta say, the scenery there is just mind - blowing! When taking the cable car up the mountain, it felt like all the clouds were beneath my feet. The air at the mountaintop is super fresh. It's totally the best place for me to enjoy natural scenery😍
If you only pick one, I'd keep Zhangjiajie. Late April should be nice before the May holiday crowds :)
