Yoyogi Park (*ca.* 60 years old) and Meiji Shrine (106 years old, I think) a neither anything special, especially compared with what you'll see in Kyoto.
Yoyogi Park: A faux Western Park that's only 50 years old.
Yoyogi is just a normal big park. Unless there's an event you want to attend, you have Aoyama Cemetery, Meiji Jingu Gaien, Shinjuku Central Park and Shinjuku Gyoen as more interesting green spaces.
I really don't think Yoyogi is worth visiting for tourists especially not on the same day as Shinjuku Gyoen... Yoyogi is handy to Meji Jingu yes but its not that impressive as a park; its a lot of flat open grass and some trees, mostly.
Yoyogi is just a normal park.
